Online gambling prohibition in Minnesota
04-30-2009
Yesterday’s online gambling prohibition announcement from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety’s Alcohol and Gaming Division has made major media headings all over the world. It has unsurprisingly fueled up almost instant conflict from civil rights and Internet freedom groups.
Matt Werden, the Minnesota state administrator of the Poker Players Alliance, which holds 21,000 of its million members resident in Minnesota, expressed disapproval of the move swiftly, giving out a statement, this isn’t just a clumsy approach by the government; this is an obvious falsification of federal regulation, in addition to Minnesota regulation, utilized in an unprecedented way to attempt to censor the Internet. He doesn’t know what U.S. Code they’re reading, but it is not against the law to play this great American pastime online, and they’re calling their bluff.
