Online gambling group 888 Holdings plc stated this week that the business has been influenced by worldwide recession and a declined in consumer spending throughout what it calls it as the most horrible slump since World War II.
The group’s 2nd-quarter 2009 operating profit dropped twelve % to $61 million from a year ago, and the number of active casino and poker players went down by eight % to 180,000, the company stated. Both profits and player numbers reached lowesst in the first quarter.
First-half sales, which are reported in dollars, were damaged by the force of the dollar against the Euro and pound sterling this year, Levy explained. At the end of the 2nd half, the pound had dropped seventeen % against the dollar compared with the same period last year.
