Indiana casinos try to overturn ruling accepts card counting

12-15-2009

A current court ruling required an Indiana casino to permit a player to play blackjack regardless of him counting cards or not. Some experts claim that this could encourage the state's casinos to establish new rules that could drive players to other states while gambling incomes have already gone down severely.

Grand Victoria Casino and Resort in Rising Sun has requested the Indiana Supreme Court to reverse a lower court's conclusion that requires them to approve Indianapolis gambler to play the game even though he is counting cards. The Indiana Casino Association, which represents 11 of the state's 12 casinos, also supports the appeal.

According to the courts ruling, card counting is lawful, but casinos put efforts to avoid card counting by shuffling cards more frequently or with face recognition device to recognize card counters. Specialists say that those steps is going to decelerate play for other players and push them away.
